Edit-a-thon for improving and creating Wikipedia articles for women oceanographers

June 05 2019 @ 12:00 AM - June 13 2019 @ 12:00 AM

The readership of limnology- and oceanography-related English Wikipedia articles is large, with over 100,000 collective article views per day for aquatic-related articles. However, many pages remain in poor condition, especially biography articles for women oceanographers. Due to common biases, only about 18% of Wikipedia biographies are of women and we would like to combat that. Join us for this edit-a-thon as we improve and create Wikipedia articles for women oceanographers.

Find out how to join in the effort here: https://outreachdashboard.wmflabs.org/courses/WikiProject_Limnology_and_Oceanography/World_Ocean's_Day_edit-a-thon

This effort is hosted by WikiProject Limnology and Oceanography (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:WikiProject_Limnology_and_Oceanography), which is a working group of aquatic experts and Wikipedia editors who aim to improve the reliability and accuracy of publicly available aquatic information on Wikipedia. As the 5th most popular website worldwide, Wikipedia is a platform for broadly sharing information related to inland waters and marine environments.
