As part of our efforts to restore and protect our oceans and fulfil the objectives of SDG 14, ocean governance regimes aim to prevent illegal activity while enabling a variety of ocean uses and investments.

This is not as straightforward as it might sound. How do we define ‘illegal activity’? Are there practices that have negative social, economic or environmental impacts that are not classified as illegal but should be, and vice versa? Who is ultimately responsible for adverse impacts, particularly when they are unforeseen, and unseen?

Join us to hear from speakers from different disciplinary and professional backgrounds all interested in illegality and the ocean.
