In Cesenatico (FC), the Historical Sailing and Navigation School, which will be held from 9 to 11 June at the Marineland Museum, this year will be an extra occasion to raise awareness among the participants on the issues of Ocean Literacy, the ocean and our seas and to celebrate the World Ocean Day. The school takes place in collaboration with the Italian Institute of Archeology and Naval Ethnology (INSTIAEN) and the organization of the Italian Naval League - Delegation of Cesenatico, and has the patronage of the International Research Institute for Archeology and Ethnology (IRIAE). School topics range from the history and evolution of boats and sails to navigation techniques and the use of traditional nautical instruments with interesting insights into naval history and archeology. This year, for the first time, there is a collaboration with the Institute of Marine Sciences of the Italian National Research Council (CNR-ISMAR) to include new themes such as oceanography and geology of Italian seas. The lessons will be held at the Cesenatico Marineland Museum, and the navigation will be carried out using historical boats like the "trabaccolo" Barchèt and the "bragozzo" San Nicolò of the Museum, with the support of other traditional boats. It will be a further opportunity to talk about sea, blue growth, sustainability and development, both on land and during navigation.

The scientific direction of the course and the role of tutor is entrusted to Stefano Medas, archaeologist and naval historian, President of the INSTIAEN, while the organizational part is carried out by the Delegation of Cesenatico of the Italian Naval League (LNI-Cesenatico).

This initiative is presented by the LNI Delegation of Cesenatico and the Section of Bologna at the Institute of Marine Science of the National Research Council, in collaboration with the Marineland Museum of Cesenatico and ISTIAEN, organized and coordinated by Marco Tommasi (LNI-Cesenatico) and Francesca Alvisi (CNR-ISMAR).

  • This school edition will again be an opportunity to raise awareness among the participants about the sea, navigation and challenges to deal with the sea in the past.
